Types Of Budget Reports

A budget is a money management plan, plain and simple. What's not so simple are the many different kinds of budgets and reports that can be created in relation to them. Company reports are going to be different from household reports. Many companies have financial departments who create all kinds of reports about finances based on projections, forecasting, actual figures, profit and loss, and more. Some companies may do a yearly analysis where they compare the budget to the actual numbers. At that point it is usually time to create the next year's budget based on what was learned financially from the previous year.

Households who use budgets, which should be all of them, may not require such detailed reports. However reports are helpful even for homemakers. The first thing to do is decide whether your budget is weekly or monthly. Monthly gives a longer look at your finances. And, you can compare at the end of the month your budget with the actual income versus expenses, like balancing a checkbook. Hopefully, there are funds left over. If there aren't, it may be because your expenses are too high, your income is too low or you fritter away money without paying attention to where it goes.

If this is the case, don't feel bad. Millions of people are in debt. Millions of people look at their budgets each month and realize they spent more than they made. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, however. No matter how financially destitute you think you are, there are ways to remedy the situation. Consider a part time evening job for extra income. Or, cut down on expenses that aren't necessary, like cable television or dining out. Small adjustments in your lifestyle can add up to big changes. Rather than paying for a gym membership, exercise at home or take long walks around your neighborhood.

Budget reports are tools that tell us what is going on with our money. Whether company or personal, reports should be created and looked over on a regular basis. It's no good keeping a budget if you don't learn from it, or use it to make positive financial changes. The most commonly utilized type of budget report is profit versus loss, or income versus expenses. It is easy to do and reveals a lot about your money situation.
